Applicants for the Training Program elect to train in the Rural or the General Pathway. Sturt Fleurieu has teaching practices available in both rural and general areas.
The Rural Pathway is for registrars who have a commitment, or a requirement, to work in rural general practice. Rural Pathway registrars are required to complete 18 months of their general practice training in RRMA 3 to 7 general practice placements.
The General Pathway is for registrars who intend to become urban general practitioners. General Pathway registrars are required by the Government to undertake a minimum of six months in a general practice placement in a rural area, and also to undertake a six month general practice placement in an outer metropolitan area with demonstrated area of service need status.
Details of the Sturt Fleurieu teaching practices available in rural and general pathway areas are identified under the gp training locations link.
