Your survival guide to general practice
Any new job is a challenge but your first general practice term is one of the biggest you will face.
Are you worried about how you will fit in to your new practice?
Does ‘not knowing’ what the next patient may have make you anxious?
How will I know how to manage them?
We know people are worried about these things when they start in general practice. So to ease the pressure and ensure you get the best start, Sturt Fleurieu has developed gp-start, an all inclusive training guide that takes you through the basics of general practice in a structured, coordinated and systematic way.
gp-start consists of fifteen training modules with over 200 supporting reference readings and website links, all at your fingertips and updated each year.
The modules are:
- Introduction to your supervisor
- The business of general practice
- The general practice consultation
- Cardiovascular disease
- Paediatrics
- Aged Care
- Diabetes
- Asthma
- Mental Health
- Womens Health
- Mens Health
- Lethargy
- Headache
- Fitness to drive
- WorkCover
We have identified Key Clinical Activities which are linked to learning outcomes and the training curriculum of both the RACGP and ACRRM. This structure allows you to incorporate systematic learning into your daily work and by working through these activities over six months of basic training you will set yourself up for advanced training and the fellowship exam.
If you want the best start, the best knowledge and the best skills, if you want to learn as efficiently as you can, then gp-start is the program for you.
"The experience I gained working as a rural GP registrar is invaluable. gp-start made transition from hospital to community based practice much easier, I would recommend it to any basic term registrar".
